OOC: So, this isn't good. Dourap has no successes, so Casey's success doesn't provide any assistance. Further, there's a Complication.

I'm going to call this a Success at Cost, meaning there's a second Complication applied to Cole. He's in a world of hurt.

Even the best surgeons sometimes fight a losing battle. Dourap, unfamiliar with ballistic injuries, is forced to draw upon every ounce of his genius to keep the security chief on the side of the living. In the end, he's able to stabilize Cole almost despite himself, knowing that the harder slog remains ahead of him.

OOC: Cole's Complications are Trauma Shock and Massive Internal Injuries, and both will increase the Difficulty of his recovery from the Injury.

Okay, I'll give you gents an opportunity to interact.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Once he received word the landing party had beamed back up, Sorak stood and moved to the turbolift, ordering "Lt. Del Vecchio, you have the conn," just as the doors close. Turning back to the doors, he intoned, "Transporter Room."

And then, he waited to arrive, looking forward to the captain's report.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

OOC: Can I make one request? Cole wants a single blinking bulb on his support chair if he makes it out of this :-)

Davy, aka GM

OOC: That can probably be arranged.... ;D

Meanwhile, Lt. Lear double times it to the transporter room, two specialists in tow to take the rifles back to the armory, arriving in time with the XO.

On the bridge, Tobin continues his assessment of the battle. The Tyreen took surprisingly little casualties and repulsed the attack, thanks in no small part to Captain Styles and his landing party holding the center of the defenders' line. Given the high number of casualties in that zone, however, he can't determine the status of the landing party itself. As he investigates further, his preliminary guess is that the Apellans may have left as much as 30-45 percent of their total force on the battlefield.

OOC: I was about to continue when I realized that I left all of the data on the overall battle on my laptop at home. (Even the 30-45 percent number above is just a wild guess, so I may revise it later, based on my notes.) So, I'll stop here, let you folks interact (which is why I brought Lear to the transporter room and gave Tobin some information to share).

Lear steps aside to let the XO pass through the transporter room door first. On entering he nods at Dietrich and details the two security crewmen to gather up the rifles for secure storage. This done, he dismisses Dietrich and waits to see if he can glean any news on Cole.

Tobin's feeling of relief at the return of Capt. Treyva's away team is encroached upon by worry as he analyzes the data from the area where Styles' party was involved in the battle. He bites his lip for a moment with concern before opening a channel to the transporter room.

"Captain, I'm glad to hear you're alright. I have good news on the battle: the Tyreens have repelled the Appellan assault and inflicted significant casualties on the attackers, thanks in no small part to Capt. Styles' efforts, I'm sure. But no word yet on him or his landing party. They were in the thick of the fighting."

OOC: By the way, we're in a new scene, now. Momentum reduced by 1, and you're all considered to have taken a "brief rest" when you materialized in the transporter room.

The Wounded
Cole - Injury/Stable (2 Complications)
Kowalski - Injury/Stable

Current
Momentum 3
Threat 0

Advantages & Complications
Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
More Aggressive Strategy Advantage (Tyreen)
Educated Guess Advantage (when using ship's sensors to actively scan for cloaked ships)
Trauma Shock Complication (Cole; Injury-related Complication)
Massive Internal Injuries (Cole; Injury-related Complication)

OOC: Just wanted to say, Davy, and my fellow players,  that i've been reading back over this episode and you are smashing it, gents. I'm gripped and i'm playing it.

Treyva leaned across the transporter console and pressed the intercom control. "Very good, Mr. Les. It was getting ugly near their position when things started going pear-shaped for us. Have Mr. Costaluna try to raise the captain on his communicator."

Sorak noted Lear's arrival and the disposition of the firearms. He waited for the captain to finish with Les before speaking. "Since Mr. Les has filled you in on our current situation, I shall limit my greeting to 'Welcome home,' sir."
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

As if on cue, the communications station lights up and Miguel answers. He's quiet for several moments, then reports to Maria and Tobin (and the transporter room, via the open comm).

"It's Petty Officer Simmons from the Rostov," he announces. "Four casualties to report; two dead, two injured. They're in a secluded area, awaiting transport. Captain Styles and Mr. Reed need immediate medical treatment."

On the bridge near the conn, Lt. Cmdr. Even-Vered swears in her native Hebrew and heads for the turbolift.

The chief responds quickly, locking onto Simmons' signal and prepping the beam out. "Stay clear of the pad," she warns, before tapping the beam stabilizer and drawing up the sliders on her console. In the background, Miguel's voice calls over the ship's internal comms for a medical team to report to the transporter room.

Six forms materialize on the pad; one is sitting, three are laying, and two are standing, though one is using the other for support.

Although the crew doesn't know most of the Rostov's crew by sight, they recognize Simmons by the communicator in his hand, his arm around a female human specialist and his right leg wrapped in shredded trouser material and dried blood; the specialist's right shoulder and arm are bandaged up, as well as her midsection. One of those laying down is Ensign Reed, his midsection wrapped tightly with several layers of native cloth, while the other supine crewmen have patterned Tyreen blankets draped over their upper torso and heads. Styles is sitting, slumped over, his left arm in a primitive sling and his shoulder wrapped; he's conscious, but clearly out of it. The petty officer nods appreciatively to the captain and the transporter chief.

OOC: Simmons is a tall-ish redheaded human male. The specialist is of average height and dark-haired.

Before anyone can get a word in edgewise, nurses Brown, Baker, and Fox rush in with six orderlies. The nurses are in and out in a flash, taking the wounded with them, while two orderlies remain behind to reverently place the dead on gurneys and depart for the morgue. As the door slides closed, Chief Ma clears something from the corner of her eye.

Meanwhile, on the bridge, Miguel reports all members of the Rostov's landing party are aboard. Tobin continues his scans of the battlefield as the Apellans slowly retreat toward their camps. The Tyreen appear to be retrieving the remains of their warriors and lining up the Apellan dead in rows. He also believes their taking injured Apellans left in the field to a place near their encampment, where Tyreen wounded were being treated.

An energy signature appears in the viewer, some distance from any congregation of locals.

OOC: Nolmir, please give me a Insight + Science test vs. Difficulty 2, assisted by the ship's Sensors + Science (9/2).
