Davy, aka GM

Maria's voice calls over shipwide comms, "Red alert, all hands to battlestations."

Officers and crew immediately begin moving to their action stations; Mr. Lear joins the captain and first officer in the turbolift, knowing he has to fill in for Cole at the weapons station.

The lift doors open and Miguel announces, "Captain on the bridge!"

"As you were," Treyva responds.

Maria vacates the conn, reporting, "The scout has just lifted off and is following the trough of the valley at low altitude. We don't yet know their expected atmospheric escape vector."

"They're maintaining comms silence," Miguel notes.

As Sovar makes way for Cmdr. Sorak at the engineering monitoring station, he adds, "Power is nominal through all systems. All warp factors available."

"Shields are up and at 100 percent," Gerald notes as Lt. Lear arrives to relieve him.

OOC: Okay, you folks are at red alert, and all battlestations crewmembers are at their stations. Over to y'all. What's the plan?
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Lear slides into the chair at the Weapons console, noting that the tactical systems are at full readiness.

Treyva sat down in command chair. "Stay with them, Maria; I want them to know we see them." Turning to Sciences, he said, "Don't lose them, Tobin."

"Aye, sir," Tobin replies as he continues tracking the ship and checking the sensor readings.

Davy, aka GM

"Following the shimmer, aye," the helm officer replies as she brings up her sensor hood to track the minute atmospheric distortion of the Bird of Prey's cloaking device.

Within moments, their target begins to take greater advantage of intervening geography, and the ship's sensors struggle to keep up. Finding a stationary cloaked object that's doing things like sending and receiving comms signals or conducting transporter ops is one thing, especially when you know exactly where to look. Trying to track a slight distortion over a highly varied background (such as an active and diverse terrestrial biome) - especially one that's trying to lose you - is something else entirely.

OOC: We're going to do an opposed test.
Insight + Science vs. Difficulty 3 task for Tobin, assisted by the ship's Sensors + Science. Educated Guess Advantage and Advanced Sensor Suite will reduce the Difficulty to 1. Opposed by the Bird of Prey's helmsman's Control + Conn vs. Difficulty 1, assisted by ship's Engines + Conn. The Difficulty is reduced to 0 by the Cloaking Device.

The Wounded
Cole - Injury/Stable (2 Complications)
Kowalski - Injury/Stable

Current
Momentum 4
Threat 0

Advantages & Complications
Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
More Aggressive Strategy Advantage (Tyreen)
Educated Guess Advantage (when using ship's sensors to actively scan for cloaked ships)
Trauma Shock Complication (Cole; Injury-related Complication)
Massive Internal Injuries (Cole; Injury-related Complication)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Klingon Bird of Prey Control + Conn (10/3) vs. Difficulty 1.
Rolled 2d20 : 13, 1, total 14

Bird of Prey ship assist Engines + Conn (7/4)
Rolled 1d20 : 6, total 6
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: That's 4 Successes vs. Difficulty 1, for a Success and 3 Momentum generated. There's your target. Tobin needs at least that to win the opposed task.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

I will look for ways to actively assist upon my return home.

I know we have an Advantage (Educated Guess) in place.  That's going to come in handy, as will Advanced Sensor Suites....

Okay, that ship Talent and that Advantage should work together to make things a little easier to be a little awesome. You've got a couple of Values that could possibly be invoked for Determination use (in this case, Perfect Opportunity would be the most likely use). If you can't do that, I can always give you a point of Determination due to my Commanding Officer role ability.

Davy, can he use a point of his own Determination, and still get one from me if needed?

OOC: The core rules state that only one Value may be applied to a single task or situation. As the commanding officer, Treyva can spend a point of Determination to grant any other character they communicate with a point of Determination.

So, yes, Treyva can give Tobin a point of Determination, but Tobin can only invoke one Value or Directive for the task (and, thus, only spend 1 point of Determination on it).
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Quick ping for Nolmir. Tobin has a task to perform. (Reply #1220)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Nolmir

OOC: Whoops, sorry. Didn't see this until today. And dang, they rolled really well.

I don't believe I've used Determination for Tobin yet in this episode, so I'll do that, invoking "A ship's crew is stronger together" for Perfect Opportunity. That's 2 successes off the bat.

I was going to use Testing a Theory, but now that I think about it, I don't think Tobin has actually attempted to detect a cloaked Klingon ship yet. In that case, I'm going to spend a Momentum to buy an extra d20. That should give me pretty good odds.

Here goes nothing:

Insight 9 + Science 5 vs. Difficulty 1
Rolled 3d20 : 18, 17, 9, total 44

Ship's assist: Sensors 9 + Science 2
Rolled 1d20 : 1, total 1

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Acknowledging invoking "A ship's crew is stronger together" to spend 1 point of Determination for Perfect Opportunity, and that Momentum spend paid off.

2 Successes from Perfect Opportunity, 1 Success from Tobin's roll, and 2 Successes from the ship assist, for a total of 5 Successes! Success, plus 4 Momentum generated.

Tobin: Success + 4 Momentum
Klingons: Success + 3 Momentum

Tobin wins the opposed task, and generates 1 Momentum to boot!

Tobin believes he has a good lock on the Bird-of-Prey's power signature and can track it as long as he's pointing the sensors in its general direction. It also means that they can target the scout, if the need arises.

Maria chuckles triumphantly. "Now I've got you, little bug..."

OOC: Tobin has a free question to ask, if he desires more information. Also, spend or keep the Momentum?

The Wounded
Cole - Injury/Stable (2 Complications)
Kowalski - Injury/Stable

Current
Momentum 3 (1 pending, Tobin)
Threat 0

Advantages & Complications
Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
More Aggressive Strategy Advantage (Tyreen)
Educated Guess Advantage (when using ship's sensors to actively scan for cloaked ships)
Trauma Shock Complication (Cole; Injury-related Complication)
Massive Internal Injuries (Cole; Injury-related Complication)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Nolmir

His brow furrowed, Tobin fine tunes the sensor calibration to get the best resolution on the cloaked vessel, then exhales forcefully as he leans back from the controls for a moment. "We have a good lock on the scout ship, sir."

OOC: That was a big sigh of relief.  ;D

For Tobin's question: Is there any sign of incoming or outgoing transmissions from the Klingon ship? Paranoid that I am, I'm mildly concerned they might still have a friend nearby.

For the other Momentum, we already have the Educated Guess Advantage for detecting cloaked ships, but could we add another on top of it, like Locked Onto Power Signature? If not, let's just bank it.
