Wait...has everyone who can on the other side fired? Because if the answer is yes, they're out for a little while....

Ally should shoot, though, while we wait for the answer to that question.

OOC: Oh, yes, they're done for the round. So, fire away! :)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

The question was specifically if they've all fired their weapons. They're still using single-shot weapons, yes?

Just so you're aware, Tann-Tyra has the following ability, if you wish to invoke it:
Close Protection* - When you make a successful Attack, you may spend one Momentum to protect a single ally within Close range. The next Attack against that ally before the start of your next turn increases in Difficulty by 1.

OOC: Just saw this. I think it'd be more useful to save the Momentum to keep the initiative next round, so I'll pass.

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Noted, Nolmir. Thanks.

A5 fired last round, and both A2 & A3 fired this round, so, yes, they've all fired; as far as you folks know, none have had an opportunity to start reloading. And, yes, they're using the new single-shot 17.5mm rifled muskets, so there's going to be some reload time involved.

Treyva rose up, leaning against the rock he was hiding behind. His rifle was aimed at one of the Appellans nearest him. "You haven't had time to reload; we have," he said. "Drop your weapons, take your wounded friends, and go back the way you came."

OOC: Ooh, well, this will be a Presence + Command task vs. Difficulty 1. Diffuse the Tension applies to the task.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Presence + Command (10/5) Task, TN 15, D 1
Defuse the Tension grants a D20
Rolled 3d20 : 7, 19, 9, total 35

OOC: I had considered making this an opposed task, but, since I didn't say it was when you rolled, we'll leave it as a basic task.

2 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated.

One rifled musket goes flying out from cover. A moment later, the other two follow. The surviving warriors emerge slowly and, giving a cursory glance at their dead, retreat from the field.

Meanwhile, on the bridge, Mr. Les is observing the flow of battle. The technological advantage of the Tyreen, coupled with Captain Styles' tactics, seems to be holding off the Apellan attack. However, Styles and his party appear to be pinned down by no fewer than three Apellan squads, who are using their superior numbers to keep continuous fire on the Starfleet position.

On the other side of the battle, a group of Apellans are approaching unhindered on the Tyreen right flank; they have an unopposed path to the camp. Now, Tobin knows that a number of Tyreen warriors are lining the rock formations overlooking the camp, but they aren't wielding lever-action rifles, leaving the camp vulnerable.

OOC: Nolmir, feel free to report to whom you want (Sorak on the bridge or Treyva directly).

Patrick, what would you like to do with the Momentum?

Tobin looks up from the sensor hood, toward Sorak. "Commander, the Tyreens appear to be holding off the Apellan attack for the most part, but I see two possible complications: Capt. Styles and his men are pinned down by a large number of Apellan troops, and hostile forces are approaching the Tyreen camp unhindered via a flanking attack. There are Tyreen warriors in the rock formations overlooking the camp, but they have outdated weapons. The camp is in danger of being overrun."

Doug Burke

The Vulcan nods, his expression stoic, "Thank you, Mr. Les." He turns to Communications, "Open a channel to the captain, please." After a moment and a signal from Costaluna, he begins. "Sorak to Treyva. Sensors indicate the Styles and his party are pinned down by multiple Apellan units. Also, another group of Apellans is positioned to overrun the Tyreen camp with only token resistance."
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Patrick Goodman

Bugger.

Gentlemen, how do we feel about splitting the party?

OOC: Fair warning, gents: each choice was meant to be a challenge to all four PCs. Splitting the group up may make one or both too difficult to succeed.

That said, if you want to tackle both, go for it. :)

Okay, which do we think is more important? Getting Styles out of his jam, or keeping the camp from being overrun?

Personally, much as I like the guy, Styles is pretty good at taking care of himself. And he did leave us in the dark with his little test, no matter how well-intentioned his actions were. OTOH, we really can't let the camp fall. I vote for the camp, though I'm open to other perspectives.
