OOC: By Other, I meant your choice from the second line of tasks (i.e., everything but Tobin's task).

For all Extended Tasks, you roll [CD] equal to 2 + the Discipline you used for the task. In your case, it'll be 2 + 5 = 7 [CD].

1 Success from Tann-Tyra, plus 3 Successes from Treyva, for a total of 4 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 2 Momentum generated.

Roll 7 [CD] for the work track.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Okay, gonna hang onto the Momentum for a moment to see if I need to reroll any Challenge dice.

Treyva Work
Rolled 7d6 : 5, 3, 5, 4, 4, 2, 4, total 27

Patrick Goodman

Spend 1 Momentum to reroll the 3s and 4s

Rolled 4d6 : 3, 5, 4, 1, total 13

I've got 6 so far, if I count correctly. Personal opinion, guys: Apply the remaining point of Momentum directly to Work, or use it to reroll the 3 and the 4 there?

Doug Burke

Work. Cuts out the middle drama for the same desired result.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Nolmir

I agree with Doug. Makes sure you get something from the Momentum spend.

Patrick Goodman

Yeah, just apply the second Momentum I generated here directly to Work. Let's get this thing moving.

Ally Control (10) + Security (4) Task (14 total)
Small Unit Tactics focus should apply, I would think.

Kowalski Control (10) + Security (2) Assist (12 total)

Rolled 1d20 : 5, total 5

Looks like 3 successes. Any Momentum applied to Work.

6 [CD]

OOC: 7 Work completed vs. 0 Resistance. 1 Breakthrough achieved.

Treyva directs his people into position, Tann-Tyra moving quickly toward an advantageous firing line.

The Apellans approach quickly, attempting to use their native understanding of the terrain to their benefit.

OOC: Apellan Warriors

OOC: Well, there's a Complication straight off. Since no Work has been performed for Dead End to be effective, they've encountered an Unforeseen Problem.

Understanding the terrain is one thing, knowing the specific obstacles in an unfamiliar part of the wilderness is another. The Apellans make a wrong turn and end up caught in a dead end, between two rock formations and some bramble bushes; cursing their mistake, they seek a way out.

OOC: Apellan resistance increases by 2.

OOC: So, I just saw something I hadn't noticed before. On p.91 of the Core rules, if you achieve a Breakthrough (and your total number of Breakthroughs is less than the Magnitude of the Task), all further task rolls for the extended task have their Difficulty reduced by 1. And, if your Difficulty is already 0, a Breakthrough adds 1[CD] to all further Work rolls.

With that in mind...

3 Successes vs. Adjusted Difficulty 1. Success, plus 2 Momentum generated.

The Work roll, then, is 8 (spending the 2 Momentum). 1 Breakthrough. (Unfortunately, it's not every 5 Work that grants a Breakthrough, but that if you achieve 5+ Work after Resistance is applied that grants a Breakthrough.)

Ally and Kowalski keep the Apellans pinned with coordinated rapid fire.

OOC: It's late, so I'll get the next Apellan rolls done tomorrow.

OOC: Sorry, gents. Got home from catechism class and dinner out last night and I crashed on the couch within a half-hour.

The Apellans attempt to break out of their predicament.
