I don't suppose I could use that Momentum to give them glass jaws, make them easier to take out, could I?

Davy, aka GM

OOC: I had to do a little digging to answer this. About the only way you could spend momentum like this would be to Create Advantage to reduce the Difficulty of your melee combat tasks in the first round of combat (or, alternately, increase the Difficulty of their opposed combat tasks in that first round).
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Hmmm. With 2 Momentum, I cpuld nuy off Cole's Disadvantage and hope the dog doesn't like the guards. I could follow Davy's idea and make the attack easier.

Really want to take them out quickly and quietly. Any ideas,, gentlemen?

Let's buy off the dog, and hope for the best on what it does.

OOC: Okay, "Whose Dog Is This?" has been bought off and is no longer a complication; however, the dog is still in play, and serves as the focus of the sentries for "All Eyes Outward."

Current
Momentum 6
Threat 10

Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
All Eyes Outward Complication (Apellans, when attempting to oppose the PCs' sneaking around)

To handle the takedown of the sentries, you will have a gated challenge of three tasks.

The first task will detail sneaking up behind the sentries into melee range. This will be an opposed task at Difficulty 1. Tann-Tyra's team will use Control + Security; the sentries will use Insight + Security. Tann-Tyra will lead and all three team members must assist. The same will go for the four sentries on their end. Also, the All Eyes Outward Complication will increase their Difficulty to 2.

If Tann-Tyra's team loses the opposed task, combat will initiate. If they lose and also have at least 1 Complication they can't buy off, combat will initiate with the sentries getting the first turn.

The second task will detail grappling the sentries. This will also be an opposed task at Difficulty 1. Tann-Tyra's team will use Daring + Security; the sentries will use Control + Security. Again, all additional team members on each side must assist.

Again, if Tann-Tyra's team loses the opposed task, combat will initiate. If they lose and also have at least 1 Complication they can't buy off, combat will initiate with the sentries getting the first turn.

The third task will detail incapacitating the sentries. This will be an extended opposed task, with Work 20 and Magnitude 4. The tasks will be Fitness + Security vs. Difficulty 1. Again, all additional team members on each side must assist on each task roll.

An available Advantage in the third gate is "Styles' Team Jumps In," which will bring Styles and his team from the sides to help finish off the sentries. It can be purchased once and will remain in place for the rest of the extended task. (Otherwise, they're remaining alert for other trouble while Tann-Tyra and her team deal with the sentries.)

If Tann-Tyra's team wins the opposed task, the sentries are all unconscious (we figure sleeper holds or the like); Complications during a successful task may be applied as Injuries to the sentries (possibly leading to their death). If Tann-Tyra's team loses the opposed task, combat is initiated; however, for each breakthrough her team achieves during the loss counts as a sentry still in the grapple of a team member. If they lose and also have at least 1 Complication they can't buy off, combat will initiate with the sentries getting the first turn.

OOC: Meanwhile, what's Cole, Ally & company doing in the storage room?
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

So Tann-Tyra and three assist rolls. Am I reading that correctly?

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Correct. Chief Dhall should be in the Supporting Characters section now, and Reply 25 in the OOC details Security Guard Minor NPCs.

Apellan sentries 4 Successes vs. adjusted Difficulty 2. Success, plus 2 Momentum generated.

Tann-Tyra's team wins the opposed task, and generates 1 Momentum. It must be spent or lost.

Current
Momentum 6
Threat 10

Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
All Eyes Outward Complication (Apellans, when attempting to oppose the PCs' sneaking around)

Their attention focused on the approaching animal, the Apellans remain unaware that Tann-Tyra and her security team are closing in from behind.

OOC: Let me know what you want to do with that Momentum point, and then we can move on to the second opposed task.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Daring is not Tann-Tyra's forte; I will use that Momentum to buy an extra die, since I think I will need all the help I can get.

Grappling Task, D1

Tann-Tyra Daring + Security (8/4), TN12
