Cole
At the first door, a simple mechanical lock holds the door latch closed. The next door down doesn't have a latch or lock on the outside.

Tann-Tyra
The second team continues forward. As Tann-Tyra passes the group of small buildings, she sees Styles and his team under the cover of the south end of the ox bridge. Styles meets her gaze, and nods, then points at his eyes, holds up two fingers, and then points them in the direction of the west building. Chief Dhall quietly points out two guards on the north side of the each building. Tann-Tyra, when she sees them, notices they're each carrying a musket.

OOC: So, to be clear, Styles is indicating that he sees two people at the westernmost of the two buildings. Tann-Tyra and her team see two guards on the north side of the eastern building, and can see that they're both carrying a musket.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Tann-Tyra nodded, then repeated the gestures, indicating the two guards on the morth side. She then mimed a rifle at port arms to indicate that they were armed.

Cole eyes the lock and speaks quietly to Ally.

"A lock means they have something they want to keep safe, right? Could be our gear. Let's take a look."

He changes his grip on his phaser and adjusts the beam width and power setting to produce a thin, precise cutting beam with which to cleanly cut the lock.

(OOC: Assuming you're happy with me doing this Davy, Cole will go ahead and cut the lock off).

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Yes, I will allow Cole to cut the lock without attempting a task, but that will come at the cost of noise. Using your phaser as a torch isn't quiet. At least the lock (and door behind it) is a quick cut.

Four totally nondescript rolls that mean nothing at all...  ;D

Cole, with the precision of an experienced marksman, cuts through the lock in a steady swipe of the wrist. The body of the lock strikes the stone and mortar deck, leaving the shackle to hang loosely over the door latch.

Meanwhile, Styles gives the security officer a thumbs up to acknowledge her. He follows that with a two-part gesture authorizing stunning force on the guards, and begins to countdown from five on one hand. As it reaches three, a weak echo of a short phaser burst filters out from the ox bridge. Styles closes his hand into a fist to stop the countdown, and his team reflexively slip out of sight as the four guards curiously start to make their way to the source of the sound, talking quietly amongst themselves. They point their muskets warily down range as they cautiously move toward the bridge.

OOC: They're moving slowly, giving Tann-Tyra and her team time to act.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Cole grimaces at the noise, which seems deafening in the otherwise quiet night air. He sets his phaser back to stun and then opens the door, ushering the others inside. He puts the remains of the lock in his pocket and moves inside, closing the door after him.

OOC: So...should I just shoot them?

Davy, aka GM

OOC: You could shoot them, or you could try to sneak up behind them and try to take them down more quietly. Or, you could wait for Styles' team to act.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Tann-Tyra watched the guards head for the ox bridge. For a heartbeat, she considered just shooting them both, but thought better of it. This had been too noisy already.

Motioning to her team, she sneaked forward to get closer to the guards.

The room behind the door is a tight-ish fit for the four team members; a number of barrels fill the remainder of the space, banded with wooden rings and appearing to be sealed up quite nicely. Strangely, though, Cole can detect the slight aroma of charcoal biscuits - one of the treats ever present on his old farmstead, usually eaten with cheese.

And, it's only at this point that Cole realizes that the dog is still outside the door.

OOC: Please have Cole attempt a Control + Security task vs. Difficulty 1, increased to Difficulty 2, because of the "Whose Dog Is This?" Complication.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the ox bridge, the other Drake security team begins to creep up on the sentries encroaching on Styles' position.

OOC: Okay, let's go with a Control + Security task vs. Difficulty 2 for Tann-Tyra & her team.

Current
Momentum 6
Threat 10

Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
All Eyes Outward Complication (Apellans, when attempting to oppose the PCs' sneaking around)
Whose Dog Is This? Complication (Cole & Ally's team, when attempting to be stealthy while the domesticated bear-like animal is with them)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

For Cole, Control + Security (9+5) vs. Difficulty 2

Rolled 2d20 : 14, 8, total 22

Nice! And All Eyes Outward makes it harder for them to detect us on the opposing roll, so that helps....

OOC: Actually, I'm going to say All Eyes Outward isn't applicable to this group, because, one, their job is to secure the Strike that; given that Cole's team is what triggered their curiosity, I will say that the four sentries are subject to All Eyes Outward, but only for Tann-Tyra's team.

Cole: 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success! The dog doesn't seem to be a hindrance at the moment... ;)

Tann-Tyra: 3 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 2 Momentum generated. The momentum must be spent or lost.

Tann-Tyra's team closes in on the Apellan sentries, who have just entered the covered bridge; incredibly enough, their attention seems to be toward the north end, and not in the shadows on their end, where the four members of Styles' team are pressed against the walls. The Deltan officer notices the silhouette of Cole's dog at the far end, as it begin to bounce happily toward folks it probably knows.

The sentries stop momentarily to regard the animals, giving Tann-Tyra and her team an opportunity to strike.
