Tobin sighs. "It does begin to feel that way, doesn't it? At any rate, there doesn't appear to be anything of interest here, so perhaps we should move to Kavoran's workshop."

Seeing the empty corridors to either side, Lt. Voshen watched down the left-hand hallway while he waved over Ens. ch'Valk, Specialist Drake, and the captain.

"Whatever motion I saw went in this direction.  We would have heard and felt any obvious escape to the outside.  Captain, myself and Ens. ch'Valk can take point searching these rooms for Kavoran.  I would prefer Mr. Drake remain here as overwatch and guard for yourself and the other monks."

Voshen allowed his hand to rest on his holstered phaser, and turned to his Andorian crewmate.  "Any objections?"

"Yes sir, " Cole agrees, giving the chamber one final look.
"Let's hope the others have had more luck."

Quote from: socrates200X on June 19, 2024, 04:51:03 PMVoshen allowed his hand to rest on his holstered phaser, and turned to his Andorian crewmate.  "Any objections?"

"None," replies Chev, his left hand automatically straying to his hip to confirm his phaser is still there, while his right continued to hold up the tricorder in order to maintain the pretense. Moving down the left-hand hallway, he adjusted the tricorder to read for any energy spikes that might be indicative of an electronic booby trap.

Tobin & Cole
The second-master nods and gestures for the officers to go ahead of him. They remember the way to the reliquary, and step out into the swirling hot winds.

Treyva, Voshen, & Chev
The captain's assent given, Voshen and Chev head down the back corridor to the side room door. A quick scan by Chev reveals no area-denial or anti-personnel devices, neither improvised nor integrated; however, it does note a door control on the far wall inside the room.

The lieutenant opens the door, and they find a small study room, with the far and exterior walls covered with largely-occupied book shelves. Chev sees no obvious door control visible around the wall of ancient tomes and scrolls.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

socrates200X

Voshen scanned the small room.  In the back of his mind, he felt time draining away.  Their quarry had eluded them thus far, and he was afraid that it was doing it again.

At Chev's signal of the unseen door control, Voshen began a visual search of the bookshelves...

Voshen's searching the bookcase with his special eyes (Multispectral Vision Talent) on top of whatever help he's getting from Chev's scans.

OOC: Okay, let's have Chev attempt an Reason + Security task vs. Difficulty 2 (well-hidden door control), assisted by Voshen using the same. Chev's tricorder will be an Advantage in this situation.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Chev ch'Valk

"Now that's interesting," says Chev, nodding at the wall. "My tricorder is picking up a door control on the other side of this wall. Attempting to determine specifics..."

OOC: Sorry, Reason 10, Security 4 gives me 1 success, with Advantage should be enough, but let's see what Voshen's assist can do.

Voshen Assisting with Insight + Science, no Focus, (TN: 13) to look at the bookcase using his Multispectral Vision and try to pick up any anomalies that would line up with Chev's readings.

(Note: if this is judged to be more of a Security roll, that's a TN: 12 instead.)

OOC: I had specified Voshen was to assist with the same task as Chev, so it was vs. Reason + Security.

Chev gets 1 Success, and Voshen assists with 1 Success. 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 2, reduced to 1 by the tricorder Advantage. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated!

What would you gents like to do with the Momentum?

Current
Momentum 2 (1 pending, Chev)
Threat 11
Storm Interference Complication (increase complication range for all tricorder readings within the perimeter of the sandstorm to 18-20)

Chev's tricorder shows that one book on a middle-height shelf sits on a sensitive pressure plate, which appears to be remotely connected to the door controls.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

socrates200X

Re: Momentum spend, I'm thinking we spend the 2 and clear the Complication.  Otherwise, maybe spend 1 to Obtain Information on any suspicious Vulcan lifesign movement nearby.  I'm not yet convinced that he's not just giving us the runaround...

"'The Open Path: Analysis on the Philosophy of Jarok and Adherents in the 2nd Era'...how droll.  Well."  Voshen moved to the bookcase.  "In for a credit..." he muttered before lifting the tome off the shelf.

OOC: I guess Cole and Tobin can show up when dramatically appropriate.

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Sorry, I needed to catch the others up a bit to where you gents were. Also, been a busy few days. I'll try to get a post out soon.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

OOC: Let's spend 2 and clear that Complication.

"'Open Path.' Nice. Likely the closest we'll ever get to Vulcan humor," replies Chev softly, lowering his tricorder and taking out his phaser. "I hope this leads to a Vulcan speakeasy. Doubt it, though."
