OOC: 1 Success vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Complication generated. We're going to call this a Sensor Glitch Complication, which will increase the Difficulty all tasks for which the ship's Sensors assist.

Both Tobin and Chief Morais scan from their respective locations. Each man detects 43 life signs (not counting the Starfleet personnel) on the floor; however, a brief moment later, that number becomes 42.

Residential Tower
Morais quietly announces his findings as the ensign cautiously advances toward the form. The chief admits he didn't catch where the life form was that disappeared.

O'Neil continues his approach toward the body, then sprints forward and drops to a knee. "Officer down!" he calls out. "One of the bodyguards!"

The ensign is back on his feet, his phaser covering the closed door to 1726 (N'Varas' apartment) just as the door behind him opens and a head pokes out...

OOC: Okay, Cole only has a moment to act. What does he do?

Also, does Tobin want to spend any Momentum on the task result?

OOC: Cole already has his weapon drawn I believe so I guess he'll use the ready action to prepare to fire if needed and then call out a challenge.

Cole's weapon swings up in the direction of the sudden movement.

"Starfleet Security," he calls out, "Identify yourself."

OOC: I'd like to use Tobin's free Obtain Information from Chief Science Officer and Studious: Was the missing person transported out, killed, or something else? Also, what location did they disappear from?

And how much would it cost to negate the complication?

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Patrick, one thing you could do is jump over to play O'Neil or Chief Morais at the cost of 1 Threat (they'd be the fifth supporting character introduced/featured this episode). This would be the first introduction for both characters, so feel free to create their stats.

The Vulcan turns around, momentarily startled before regaining composure and raising his empty hands. It's clear he's wearing some form of bedclothes. O'Neil looks over his shoulder briefly before returning his focus to N'Varas' door.

"Salenak. I am a logistics specialist for a private firm," he announces.
"Course, sir?"

OOC: Acknowledging addition of 1 Threat to introduce Ensign O'Neil as the 5th Supporting Character this episode.

Patrick, here's what O'Neil has encountered:
The uniformed V'Kor officer on the ground in front of him is a bloody mess. The ensign can easily see one wound, a puncture through the lower left rib cage; however, the odd angle of the torso indicates some sort of trauma to the back...possibly the spine. Amazingly enough, the Vulcan still has a (very faint) pulse.

Once standing again, he sees the indicator on the door control to apartment 1726 shows the door as "locked."

His brief glimpse of the curious Vulcan reveals a male with a youthful adult appearance. A round face, and a frame that would indicate a sedentary lifestyle; he doesn't get much more than that as he returns his focus to apartment 1726.

Cole keeps his phaser lowered but relaxes a touch. "Sir, this is a security matter, please stay in your apartment and keep the door closed for now."

O'Neil briefly glanced towards Cole. "The V'Kor officer is alive, sir, but only just. The door to the investigator's apartment indicates that it's locked." He paused for a moment, then looked at his superior. "How do you want to proceed, Lieutenant?"

OOC: Incidentally, while iron-based blood apparently smells coppery, most sources indicate that copper-based blood smells like wet rust.

Cole gestures Chief Morais across. "Emergency medical transport for this man, Chief."

While the Chief flips his communicator open and quietly speaks to the Drake, Cole steps closer to O'Neil. "Any chance we can override that lock, Ensign?", nodding in the direction of the locked door to apartment 1726.

Davy, aka GM

The curious Vulcan nods respectfully and retreats back into his apartment, closing and locking his door.

Morais relays the downed officer's location to the transporter room, and Cole hears Anderson announce he has a lock on the V'Kor officer. Moments later, the telltale whine of the transporter effect begins to fill the hallway.

OOC: Yes, there are a couple ways to override the lock.

1. Contact the V'Kor people downstairs, who probably have the authority to get into the building's security system and unlock the door. Of course, a smoldering security console in the lobby probably complicates things a bit.

2. Attempt to hack the lock using a tricorder. This will be an Reason + Security task vs. Difficulty 3. A Complication here will mean a security lockdown of the door, which will require greater authority (like high-level Intelligence Service leadership) to override (and probably take a half-hour or more to secure those permissions).

1. will take a couple minutes, at least, but it will also be automatically successful. 2. will take a 20-30 seconds, but it's a task.

OOC: He's a daring young man....

O'Neil cocked his head to one side, examining the lock panel for a moment, then holstering his phaser. Opening his tricorder, he said, "Aye, sir, I think so. Give me a few seconds." With that, his fingers began flying across the device's controls.

OOC: O'Neil Reason + Security Task (9+4), TN 13, D3
There's a faint glimmer of a hope that Forensics could be at play here by way of some knowledge of how these things work and can be manipulated.
He's daring, but he's not stupid. The deck is stacked against him, so spending 3 Momentum on 2 additional dice.

OOC: I did miss that. Sorry. Acknowledging spending the free Momentum from Science Officer role and free additional question from Studious.

1a. It's difficult to tell, but Tobin thinks he sees residual energy from a transporter.
1b. The life sign was briefly in N'Varas' apartment.

2. You can spend 2 Momentum or add 2 Threat to counter the Complication. You folks have enough Momentum to cover it.
