OOC: Cole is probably 2-3 hours behind Tobin in his day, although being out in the wilderness may have necessitated a midday rest period to stay out of the sun, so he may have a little more left in his tank. I'll leave that up to Renny. :)

That said, it's about the equivalent of 11pm-midnight for Tobin, and about 9-10pm for Cole.

OOC: Yeah that sounds good for Cole. Happy to go with that.

Feeling Treyva's questioning gaze, Cole slipped into a matching at ease pose without being aware of it.

"I'm good to carry on for now, sir. I spent a lot of time keeping out of the heat so i'm feeling pretty rested. I'd like to keep momentum on this."

Patrick Goodman

Treyva looked from one man to the other. "All right, but neither of you are going to do Thadis much good if you're exhausted. Tobin, contact your solicitor and make the necessary arrangements for them to represent Thadis. Cole, put together the search parameters for the background checks. When T'Kiri's officers arrive with the data, I want that search ready to go." He paused, then turned to his XO. "Sorak, see what you can find out about that ionizer at the research station, and try to determine if our victim from that station had any connection to the device or its investigation."

If you enjoy my work, why not buy me a coffee?

Renny

"Aye sir, " Cole responded, straightening slightly under his Captain's gaze.

Doug Burke

Sorak nods, "Yes, sir." He turns to his wife, "Would it be permissible for me to contact Storvant in addition to your request for his report?"

OOC: What is local time for Ta'Vistar at this point?
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Let's say that Ta'Vistar is about an hour ahead of ShiKahr, and, thus, the ship; so, it's about 3-4pm Ta'Vistar time.

So, that means Tobin's district is ship+9hrs, Cole's desert is ship+7hrs, and Ta'Vistar is ship+1hr.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Nolmir

Treyva looked from one man to the other. "All right, but neither of you are going to do Thadis much good if you're exhausted. Tobin, contact your solicitor and make the necessary arrangements for them to represent Thadis."

"Thank you, sir. I'll contact T'Vaana Sath immediately," Tobin replies. "With your permission, I'd also like to review the forensic evidence that has been collected by the Vulcan security services. Perhaps there is a pattern that can be discerned absent a rush to judgment concerning Thadis' guilt."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Just a reminder for Tobin that it's some point after 11pm in the region of the performance he was attending. The performance should have ended about an hour ago, so there might be a chance T'Vaana-Sath is still awake.

Tobin's forensic review will involve two tasks. The first will be a review of physical evidence, using Reason + Security vs. Difficulty 2; the second will be a review of the autopsies, using Reason + Medicine vs. Difficulty 2. (The higher difficulty is because you're trying to find something the VDF may have missed.) You may substitute Science for one or both tasks, but at Difficulty 3 instead.

Cole's compilation of search parameters will be a Reason + Conn task vs. Difficulty 2. You may substitute Security for Conn, but at Difficulty 3, instead.

Sorak's research of the ionizer will be a Reason + Engineering task vs. Difficulty 1. Determining the victim's connection to the device and research station will be a Reason + Conn task vs. Difficulty 0. (I couldn't justify making these more difficult, but, at least, the "easy A" will hopefully give you folks back some of the Momentum I expect you're about to spend. ;) )

T'Kiri nods her assent.

The officers turn to their individual tasks. Officer Ayhan departs for the GolanKorsta mine, while Officer T'Ara gathers the info about the desert research station incident to bring to Sorak. T'Kiri arranges Tobin's access to all forensic and autopsy data.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Doug Burke

While waiting for the information gathered by T'Ara, Sorak arranged to contact Storvant from his office. Following the usual pleasantries with Storvant's receptionist,  he prepared to wait on hold for his brother-in-law's connection.

OOC: Working up search parameters - Reason (8) + Conn (3) vs. Difficulty 2. I'll go with the lower Difficulty I think as I don't have any Focuses to assist.

Rolled 2d20 : 6, 14, total 20

Renny

OOC: That's one success only. So, I guess it will take a while longer to work up a plan as this first attempt hasn't succeeded.

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Yes, 1 Success vs. Difficulty 2. Failure; however, I'm allowing Success at Cost for these tasks.

For Cole's Success at Cost, the crew will suffer the Complication "Limited Personal Data." This will primarily be imposed when trying to analyze background information on the victims. It represents the fact that, because the VDF focused early on Thadis as the suspect, they stopped their warrant process on victim background and public records (which, on Vulcan, is usually extensive). This will have to be overcome through specific tasks later (likely negotiating directly with N'Varas or Spalan), unless you burn Momentum (or add Threat).

Limited Personal Data Complication (when analyzing victim background information & public records)

To say what the Vulcans had collected on the victims' background was thin is entirely understated. It's paltry. Almost pathetic, even. Just basic biometry, some itineraries, a couple public behavioral records. Nothing comprehensive, to be sure. Cole's search parameters are deeper and more thorough than any of the data they'll be drawing from.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Doug Burke

I was going to wait until after the conversation with Storvant to make my rolls, but changed my mind in the interest of speeding play. :)

Ionizer Research: Reason + Engineering (11 + 5 = 16 total), Difficulty 1

Rolled 2d20 : 16, 17, total 33

Victim Connection: Reason + Conn (11 + 2 = 13 total), Difficulty 0

Rolled 2d20 : 11, 3, total 14

Looks like 1 success on the first Task and 2 on the second. Not bad...

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Doug, if you wish, we can put your rolls in the back pocket and roleplay out Sorak's conversation with Storvant.

Nolmir, feel free to roll your tasks now.
