OOC: Things are about to get interesting...

Treyva, Cole, Ally and the others take their kits and head out of the armory; they pause to load their magazines as Styles and his team head out with one of the hunting groups, giving directions to the various hunting parties.

Of the hunters calls out, "Here they come!" followed by the first shots of the fight. The landing party moves forward from cover to cover and soon find themselves confronted by five Apellan warriors moving up the hill, trying to reach the next group of rocks.

OOC: Finally, gents, here you go! You folks get the first action in the first round. Who's up?

You are currently carrying:
Repeating Rifle (ranged, 3+Sec [CD], Vicious 1, Deadly)

Current
Momentum 6
Threat 9

Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
More Aggressive Strategy Advantage (Tyreen)
Educated Guess Advantage (when using ship's sensors to actively scan for cloaked ships)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Renny

So Cole's nearest mark is the Apellan at bottom right. At extreme range, I believe. Cole will take aim but wait for the order to fire. Will use the Aim Minor Action.

OOC: The Apellans are at Extreme range.

From what I can see in the Core rules and its Errata, there is no difference between Close and Extreme in ranged combat. No penalties from longer shots. (Strange.) The only penalty you get is if there is an opponent within Reach of you as the shooter (Difficulty increase), and if there's an opponent in reach of your Target (Complication range increase).

So, I suppose, yes, you can see the whites of their eyes, in a metagaming sense.

That said, the line of rocks in Zone 2 provides some cover for some sight lines:
Top half of Zone 1 to Zone 8 - 1[CD] cover
Top half of Zone 1 to Zone 9 & 10 - 2[CD] cover
Bottom half of Zone 1 to Zone 8 & 9 - 2[CD] cover
Bottom half of Zone 1 to Zone 10 - 1[CD] cover

Top half of Zone 3 to Zone 8 - 2[CD] cover
Top half of Zone 3 to Zone 9 - 1[CD] cover
Bottom half of Zone 3 to Zone 8 - 1[CD] cover

Since you're directly behind cover, you each get 3[CD] cover for your immediate protection, and a total of 4[CD] protection if you're being attacked along one of those above sight lines.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Well, since we have initiative and the shooting has already started....

Treyva braced his rifle on the rock he was sheltered behind. "Fire when ready."

Renny, I think that means you're up.

Cole hears the order and leans into the stock of the rifle, sighting on his target, the nearest of the Apellans. He squeezes the trigger and feels the kick as the round is released.

Cole's shot at the Apellan. Control (9) + Security (5) Difficulty 2.

Rolled 2d20 : 5, 13, total 18

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Fixed the battle map to differentiate between the Apellans. Cole's attack will be against A5.

All right, 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. It's a Hit!

Roll damage. (This should be 8[CD], with the Vicious 1 trait (1 extra damage per effect rolled).)

Also note that, if you are attempting not to be lethal with these guns, your Difficulty increases by 1.

Noted re Difficulty increase.

So I make that 5 damage with 2 effects for a total of 7 damage.

OOC: I'm sorry, I forgot you gents were waiting on me.

Yes, it's 7 damage to Apellan A5. A5 receives an Injury, which he avoids by taking the Complication "Shoulder Hurt," which will increase the Difficulty of any combat task that requires the use of his left shoulder.

Cole leans around his cover and finds an exposed warrior heading up the hill. His shot is true, and the Apellan staggers as the bullet appears to skip off his shoulder joint.

OOC: Do you gents want to spend Momentum to keep the initiative, or give the action over to the Apellans?

Treyva 10
Cole 17
Ally 14
Tann-Tyra 14
Kowalski 12

Kowalski and Dietrich have Control 10, Daring 10, and Security 2. Their stat line for the Repeater is Ranged, 5 [CD], Vicious 1, Deadly.

With Cole's Quick to Action talent, I see no reason not to keep it. It's free this round. The only question is who goes next. I'll tell you for nothing, however, that it shouldn't be Treyva because he sucks at combat.

Ally's up for it if we keep the initiative.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Patrick Goodman

Oh, we're keeping it; like I said, there's zero point not to since it's free this round. So, Ally's up.

Ally will take a shot (literally) at A1.
