Tann-Tyra slumped her shoulders and looked upwards in frustration. "Of course you do," she muttered, more to herself than Dhall.

She straightened up, all business again. She looked at one  crewman and motioned to Dhall. "Go up and double-check that both doors are barred, then help Chief watch our backs; we're about to have company," she whispered. As he passed the Chief on the stairs, the young Deltan told the other crewman, "On my mark, yell like I just kicked you really hard in the shin."

Facing the door, she held her phaser with both and took a firing stance. The crewman did likewise and nodded his readiness. She intoned, "Now."

The young specialist let out a convincing yelp; before he was done, Tann-Tyra cried out, "Hill people! There are hill people in the village!"

To be clear: I know the outer door was barred earlier, but I'm not sure about the courtyard door. That's what she sent crewman 1 up to check on. Company is coming, yes, but she wants to limit the guest list.

Cole & Ally
Cole and the team near the northerly door; they can hear the Apellans talking, though the sound is muffled and less than intelligible.

OOC: Doug, since Renny is away, would you mind having Ally take the lead?

Tann-Tyra & Chief Dhall
OOC: Tann-Tyra needs to attempt a Presence + Command test vs. Difficulty 2. The security guard in question may assist with the same test (9/2).

Also, Nolmir, would you mind taking control of Chief Dhall for the remainder of the scene?
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

What could possibly go wrong....

Tann-Tyra "Convince the guard to open the door" Task, Presence + Command (10/1), TN11, D2

Crewman 2 "Help the crazy Deltan officer" Assist, Pres + Comm (9/2), TN11

Let's see what happens.

I'm down. Is our door unlocked? If not, I'll edit.

Ally shows her readout to her teammates and gestures that she will take the north target and they should take those to the west. She'll give them a head start and a five count.

She quietly opens the door, watching and listening for reactions, then gestures for them to proceed.
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

The door makes little sound as she swings it into the room. Ahead, they find a short corridor that leads to another door. This one is open, and part of the room beyond can be seen. One man stands in front of a bench that lines the wall, looking over what appears to be an archaic rifle or musket upon it. A voice to the left is explaining something about the weapon.

"Where our current muskets use flint striking against steel to create the spark in the pan, which then ignites the powder inside the barrel, this one has what our friend calls a percussion cap. All that's needed to send the spark is to strike it; much more reliable than loose powder."

OOC: They don't seem to notice the door opening.

Tann-Tyra & Dhall
OOC: 0 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success at cost.

Tann-Tyra's cries has the desired effect...sort of. The door view opens and the barrel of a musket presses up against the iron basket, with the ensign looking straight down the interior of the smooth bore.

OOC: Going to start combat rounds. And, the cost of Tann-Tyra's success is that the Apellan gets to act first.

He doesn't wait, and the flash in the pan is quickly followed by a burst of fire and smoke from the barrel.

OOC: Apellan Soldier Control + Security (9/2) ranged attack against Tann-Tyra vs. Difficulty 2, increased to Difficulty 3, because he's attempting to aim through the door view guard. Complication Range increased to 19-20, due to security guard within close range of Tann-Tyra.

Spending 1 Threat to Create Opportunity.

Rolled 3d20 : 15, 8, 16, total 39

Current
Momentum 5
Threat 10

Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
All Eyes Outward Complication (Apellans, when attempting to oppose the PCs' sneaking around)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

OOC: 1 Success vs. Difficulty 3. Failure.

The wall seems to explode near the ensign's face, and she reflexively ducks away, thankfully only receiving a light pelting of particulate.

OOC: Okay, both scenes will be in the same combat rounds, so a member of either team may act on the protagonists' turns. The Apellans are not going to seize the initiative, so who is acting next?

OOC: A bit of him; the door view is about 15cm wide by 10cm high, so you can see portions of a hand, shoulder, & face.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Nolmir

Chief Dhall looks back in alarm at the gunshot, but, upon seeing the ensign is unharmed, he turns most of his attention back to the entrance doors and stairs.

OOC: Deferring to Patrick to go first.

Patrick Goodman

Tann-Tyra felt fear give way to anger. Straightening herself, she aimed her phaser at the door view and fired.

Minor action: Take aim. Also, I see Bold (Security) in her future, since I will throw a point of threat Davy's way for an extra die once I know for sure what I'm rolling.

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Control + Security Ranged Attack vs. Difficulty 2 for Tann-Tyra. Given that this is a phaser on stun and the door is a solid object obscuring all but a small portion of the defender's body, I'm going to say he has Resistance 5 Cover.

Adding 1 Threat for Create Opportunity, aye.
