The Deltan security officer peels off just before she and the team come into sight of the gate guards. The mugatos, however, crest the hill and are seen by one of the guards. He calls out, "Mugato!" and starts forward, pulling back the lock on his musket. "You're not getting one of us today, you beasts!"

The two guards head up, both firing shots, which sends the mugatos into flight. The guards follow and disappear out of view. A few seconds later, another pair of shots ring out, likely from the roving patrol. Amazingly enough, the gate is left unattended.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Spotting their opportunity, Cole signals with his right hand for the team to move into the village.

Patrick Goodman

Most of our men were with Styles, in the shadows near the gate, IIRC. Probably already moving into the village.

Gods of the sea, she thought in stunned disbelief as she watched the guards chase the creatures around the bend. That actually worked. Looking to Cole, she saw him signal to her and Banks to hurry and enter the village. She quickly joined him.

The trio make their way down toward the gate, where they see the last of the teams disappear into the town. They follow and rendezvous with the others in a dark area along the inner side of the palisade, away from the main pathway through the village.

The nearby building exteriors appear to be covered in a form of traditional stucco, probably over a wood frame; wisps of smoke can be seen rising from most of the buildings, and a number of homes appear to have fire or candlelight glows peeking out from behind closed shutters.

"Hopefully, they're like most primitive folks, and go to ben when it gets dark out," Ensign Reed posits.

Styles grunts noncommittally, his eyes scanning the grouping of four small buildings to the southeast as the landing party hears the sounds of a man rousing the alarm somewhere out of sight. (The best they can say is that he's somewhere to the east.)

"Mr. Cole, the Apellan leader rules from the building that stands over the bridge in the middle of the village," the captain says. "You may want to start your search there for our gear."

To Tann-Tyra, he adds, "We're going to have to cross the river. It's fordable, but I'd rather not get wet unless absolutely necessary; however, following the bank will likely help us avoid detection. What's your assessment?"

OOC: Okay, folks, you're at the red dot labeled "1" on the map I included, just inside the wall on the northwest side. The nearest buildings are about 20 meters in front of you to the southeast.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Has she seen this map? Do they currently have access to this or a reasonable facsimile?

OOC: You have an overhead view of the village on each team's tricorder, which was downloaded from the ship's scans from earlier.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Patrick Goodman

Tann-Tyra looked around to ensure they weren't being watched, then she turned to face the wall. Moving closer to the captain, she opened her tricorder and brought up the sensor image of the village. "There are a couple of options. There are bound to be boats we could commandeer, though that would leave us out in the open across 25 or 30 meters of water, and I don't know how many of us grew up around water."

She looked some more. "The central bridge is out, but over here...." She pointed to the eastern side of the village. "This looks like a smaller bridge right here. We could make our way around the village, staying hidden by this palisade, and cross there."

"That will add to our timetable, but it'll have the extra benefit of putting us on the opposite side of the action out there," Styles' muses, indicating with a nod of his head the ongoing mugato chase. "Good idea Mr. Cole, do you concur?"
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Renny

"Yes sir. It's worth the extra time if we can stay out of sight for longer."

"You and your team will lead, then," Styles declares. "We'll keep a little distance between our teams as we go; mine first, then Tann-Tyra's. Stay sharp.

"At your discretion, Mr. Cole."

OOC: As you're walking around the northern side of the palisade, we'll go with a each team making a Difficulty 2 Control + Security task (focuses pertaining to stealth will apply). All Eyes Outward will not apply, as that will only come into play if I need to roll for the Apellans.

Each team will get one or two assists. For Cole, it's Ally; for Tann-Tyra, it's a "security security guard" minor NPC (use the stat block in the OOC thread, reply 25); for Styles, it's Reed. And Mr. Fryling may choose to assist any of the three teams as his discretion. He's allowed to wait until all the task rolls are made before he makes his assist roll.

A failure or complication will likely draw attention, and we'll get into opposed tasks and such.
