OOC: You gents have a few options here:

1. Spend 4 Momentum to counter both Complications.
2. Spend 2 Momentum to counter either Maria's or the ship's Complication (and let me know which one).
3. Let it ride and see what happens.

What do you want to do?
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Renny

OOC: I'm sort of tempted to let it ride. Just out of curiosity...

OOC: On Messenger, Patrick says he's okay with option 3 (letting it ride), if everyone else wants to do that.

So, what's the consensus here?

If it will help with the decision making process, if you choose option 2, keeping Maria's Complication will involve a control/targeting issue on the bridge, while keeping the ship's Complication will involve a phaser system issue.

On a side note, I happened to look at the Pacing section under "Combat in Space" on p.300 of the core rules and discovered I've been managing Turns and Rounds in starship combat completely wrong. Instead of each character with a role getting a Turn each Round, each ship only gets a number of Turns equal to its Scale. This means the Drake will get 4 Turns each Round, while each of the L-9s will get 3 Turns each Round. If a single character attempts more than one Task during a Round, their Difficulty increases by 1 per additional attempt (i.e., the 2nd Task attempted has a +1 Difficulty, the 3rd has a +2 Difficulty, and so on). I will say that a Task attempted by way of the CO's Direct Action don't count against a character's total and aren't subject to increased Difficulty.

The other benefit to this is that there isn't such a huge disparity between the number of player-side actions vs. enemy actions, so we can go back to swapping Turns between players & opponents as per the RAW.

If there are no stringent objections, I will implement this for the current Round. This means that the Drake is finishing its 2nd Turn this Round, and both L-9s have also taken 2 Turns this Round.

OOC: Buying them both off is a heavy lift, but we do have 5 Momentum, so might as well use it. But I won't be upset either way. I too have a bit of morbid curiosity.  ;D

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Oooookay, we have 2 for letting it ride, and two for buying both off but it would be pretty cool/interesting to let it ride...

That sounds like letting it ride to me. ;D

...Don't say I didn't warn you...

OOC: 2 Power spent on aborted shot.

Maria is about to execute the attack when her console flickers and beeps. She looks down, trying to figure out where the issue is, when Katya at the Phaser Systems Monitoring station announces, "Phaser lock just blew, and I'm getting some Irre --"

She's cut off mid-sentence as both her console and Maria's helm station spew sparks in just about every direction. Both women reflexively flinch away from the danger as the brilliant display forces everyone on the red-darkened bridge to momentarily shield their eyes.

Maria, having fallen out of her chair in her attempt to avoid a plasma shower, picks herself up and announces, "I'm all right." The left side of her turtleneck and cheek are streaked with soot. A moment later, Katya - her right shoulder and some of her hair singed - says the same and they set to figure out what just happened.

"I have a Theta-Bus undervolt - junctions 26, 27, and 28 are showing zeros," the phaser officer reports.

"Half my console is shorted out; I must've crossed a wire in there somehow," Maria adds.

Sorak quickly directs engineering to bypass the failed junctions, and partial phaser power is restored in short order.

OOC: The result is two Complications. The first is Helm Console Damage, which will increase the Difficulty of all Tasks performed at the Helm Station by 1. The second is Partial Phaser Power Failure, which will increase the Power cost of all Phaser Attacks to 2 (and you aren't allowed to add additional power to increase damage).

Do you folks want to Keep Initiative?

* Irre is German slang that has the same meanings as "crazy" in American slang.

We are a new ship....

I've been locked out of my Facebook account, hopefully temporarily. If there's something you need to contact me about, Messenger is currently not an option. You can message me here or email me directly if you need me.

So Renny and I, over in the Messenger chat, say  pass the initiative back. Doug? Nolmir?

The nearest L-9 pushes its disruptor attack.

OOC: L-9A Weapons Officer Fire Disruptors Control + Security (9/2) vs. Difficulty 2, raised to Difficulty 3 for being 2nd Task in Round. Ship assists with Weapons + Security (9/2).

OOC: And I think that's what we're going to call it. 0 Successes vs. Difficulty 4*. Failure, and 1 Complication generated. The Complication will be called "...And It's Contagious," and will increase the Difficulty of all Torpedo* attacks for L9-A.

* Just noticed that I wasn't being very good about power management. They couldn't make a disruptor attack, so I'm changing it to a torpedoes attack, meaning Difficulty 4 (not going to affect the result, obviously). It also means their torpedo system will have issues, instead of their disruptors. It also means I need to schedule a Power Management Task for them soon. ;D

The torpedo streaks away from the enemy frigate, but makes an inexplicable bank to starboard and detonates within the late-B'Rel's debris field. Tobin swears he hears Klingon cursing through his library computer earpiece as he watches the telemetry through the sensor hood.

"The lead ship's power reserves appear to be low," he reports.

OOC: Okay, back to the Drake. 1 Momentum added to the pool for the Klingon torpedo attack.

OOC: Shall we have Tobin Scan for Weakness to set up a torpedo barrage? I suggest we focus on B since they have another turn this round (and more power to work with).
