Renny

OOC: I would think that's a good idea...

Davy, aka GM

OOC: 0 Successes from Sorak, 2 Successes from the ship, and 2 Successes from Lear. That's 4 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 3 Momentum generated, and 1 Complication suffered. 1 Power is spent on the attack (only because I forgot to ask how much power you wanted to spend before the task roll...you can spend up to 3 Power on a phaser attack, with each point above 1 adding 1[CD] damage if successful).

Phasers also have the Versatile 2 quality, meaning you receive 2 free Momentum on a successful hit, leaving you with 5 Momentum, 4 of which must be spent immediately or lost. It sounds like you're going to spend 2 Momentum to counter the Complication, so that leaves you with 3 (with 2 spend-or-lose).

Momentum spends in starship combat are found on p.232 of the core rules. Let me know what you want to do and roll 8[CD] damage.
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Renny

OOC: OK so we'll roll the CD first

Rolled 8d6 : 5, 5, 6, 1, 6, 6, 3, 4, total 36

Renny

OOC: I make that 6 damage.

I would suggest putting the two Momentum into either bypassing resistance or simply adding to the damage total

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Spending Momentum to overcome a target's Resistance to an attack is more efficient (Overcome 2 Resistance per Momentum point vs. 1 additional damage per Momentum point), but there's also the chance you overspend on it and extra points spent have no effect.

But, you also know that in game mechanics terms, a ship's basic Resistance is equal to its Scale, and that a B'Rel is Scale 3. I will say that this is a common knowledge thing, as B'Rels have been encountered in numbers in the 2280s. (Less common ships in foreign fleets will require a roll.)

So, spending 2 Momentum will overcome the scout's basic resistance and the +1 you folks also know about from the Klingons remodulating their shields.

Renny

OOC: Agreed, let's do that thing!

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Acknowledging the spending of 2 Momentum to overcome 4 Resistance.

Attack does 6 damage, -4 Resistance, for a total of 2 6 damage.

System Hit
Rolled 1d20 : 12, total 12
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: Hit to the scout's Structure.
Shields reduced by 6.
Structure breach suffered.

Potential Crew Injury
Rolled 1d6 : 1, total 1
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: No crew injury.

Twin lines of powerful pulsed rectified energy lance out from the ventral forward banks, scorching the scout's superstructure in several places.

"Their shields held," Lear notes, "but I think we rattled them a bit, sir."

Tobin reports, "They're scanning us."

OOC: Klingon Sensors Operator Control + Security (10/3) vs. Difficulty 1 (increased to Difficulty 2 by range). Assisted by scout's Sensors + Security (9/2).
Rolled 2d20 : 5, 2, total 7

Rolled 1d20 : 11, total 11

OOC: 3 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated. (On next attack before the end of the sensor operator's next Turn, the attack gains Piercing 2 quality and, if any d20s are purchased, the attack receives +1[CD] for each d20 purchased.)

Okay, that's the end of Round 1. You folks get the first turn in Round 2.

Note that the L-9s are now joining the fray, though they're a ways off and will have to expend some time and/or power to get into effective firing range.

Ship Status
B'Rel - 2 net Power spent, Shields -6, +1 Difficulty to hit in combat until Helm's next turn (On next attack before the end of the sensor operator's next Turn, the attack gains Piercing 2 quality and, if any d20s are purchased, the attack receives +1[CD] for each d20 purchased.)
L-9 A -
L-9 B -
Drake - Power Remaining 5/9, -1 Difficulty to hit in combat until Helm's next turn
I forgot to account for the power spent on the phaser attack. You should have 5 power left, instead of 6.

OOC: I think we should probably pound the B'Rel while we have the chance and then give ourselves some fighting room because I don't like the odds of 3 to 1

OOC: Given unanimous consent for an attack, followed by Sorak rerouting power:

1. Renny, please tell me if Lear is firing phasers or torpedoes.
1a. If firing phasers, let me know if you're expending any extra power for greater effect. (Up to 2 additional Power.)
2. Lear attempts his Control + Security Task vs. Difficulty 2 (phasers) or 3 (torpedoes). (No range penalties, and the dueling helm maneuvers cancel each other out.)
2a. Ship assists with Weapons + Security (9/3).
