Doug, I don't think I'm worried about Power this round. We're at 8/9 right now. We'll be at 5 after we close with the B'Rel. The shot takes 1 to 3, depending on whether we want to put some extra juice into the phasers. We've got juju now. It's next round we're going to need to recoup some, because we'll have 4 at best when we end this one.

We're going to do something reckless now. :)

Maria Warp Task, close to medium range, Control + Conn (10/4), TN 14, D2
Helm Operations focus is in play
Rolled 2d20 : 5, 1, total 6

Let's see how this goes.

Better than I expected considering how t rest of the day has gone.

I want to use part of that Momentum to create an Advantage to give Lear a better shot and lower the Difficulty. Something like "They Didn't See That Coming," maybe. The Klingons underestimated our helmsman's degree of crazy.

OOC: The captain's assist scores 1 Success, and the ship assist scores 2 Successes. Maria's result is 3 Successes, for a total of 6 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 4 Momentum generated!

Maria spares a glance back at her captain as he gives the order, and Treyva sees the corner of her mouth curl up mischievously. Turning her attention back to her console, she says, "Hold onto your seats, boys and girls."

Her fingers move with practiced ease over her station controls, and the ship suddenly lurches forward as a warp field effect briefly fills the screen. Everyone on the ship is momentarily yanked astern and downward at the same time as the inertial dampers struggle to keep up with the shock of the high-warp maneuver against the forces of inertia and the nearby planetary gravity well.

By the time she's done abusing the Drake's engines, the Klingon scout is much closer on the viewscreen, even as the crew feels like they left their lunch a few thousand kilometers back.

"We're within phaser range, sir," Maria announces, a hint of feral satisfaction in her tone.

OOC: 3 Power spent. The B'Rel is now at Medium Range. Acknowledging the creation of the Advantage "They Didn't See That Coming" (alternately named "Our Helm Jockey Just Redefined Crazy").

You still have 1 Momentum to spend or lose. I take it you're going to spend Momentum to keep the initiative?

Note: The reduced difficulty to hit in combat is not affected by Maria's Warp Task. The Attack Pattern Task specifically states that the reduced difficulty is in effect until the flight controller's next Turn; I interpret that to mean when the flight controller next acts independently during a round.

Ship Status
B'Rel - 2 net Power spent, +1 Difficulty to hit in combat until Helm's next turn, +1 Resistance (until ship takes damage after Resistance applied)
Drake - Power Remaining 5/9, -1 Difficulty to hit in combat until Helm's next turn

Roles That Have Acted This Round
B'Rel - Helm, Comms, Captain, Engineer, Weapons
Drake - Maria, Miguel, Tobin, Lear, Treyva

The Wounded
Cole - Injury/Stable (2 Complications)
Kowalski - Injury/Stable

Current
Momentum 5 (2 pending, Maria; 1 must be spent immediately or lost)
Threat 2

Advantages & Complications
Well-Oiled Machine Advantage (when a PC or supporting character assists a PC on a shipboard task)
More Aggressive Strategy Advantage (Tyreen)
Educated Guess Advantage (when using ship's sensors to actively scan for cloaked ships)
They Didn't See That Coming (Reduce Difficulty of next attack against B'Rel by 1)
Trauma Shock Complication (Cole; Injury-related)
Massive Internal Injuries Complication (Cole; Injury-related)
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Why, yes, I think we will hold on to the initiative....

OOC: Agreed and Lear needs to be directed to take the shot, right?

#1342
Sorak stands from the Engineering console and moves to the left and just aft of the command chair. His eyes locked on the Klingon ship, he says, "Mister Lear,"he raises an eyebrow, "Fire phasers."

Sorak Assist: Control +Command Task

Rolled 1d20 : 17, total 17
"Plus who is going to be consoling Sorak there?"

"The commander raises a valid concern," Sorak replied with his usual aplomb, "As you can see, I am beside myself with worry."

Doug Burke

Dramatic, but otherwise useless.

OOC: Okay, now we have a Fire Phasers Task Control + Security for Lear vs. Difficulty 2, with the Advantage "They Didn't See That Coming" reducing the Difficulty to 1. The ship will assist with Weapons + Security (9/3). Renny, please make both rolls.

Oh, and I forgot to roll for the ship's Improved Warp Drive.
Rolled 3d6 : 6, 2, 4, total 12
"Course, sir?"

"Out there...thataway."

Davy, aka GM

OOC: That warp maneuver only cost you 2 Power, instead of 3.

Renny

"Aye sir", Lear responds swiftly, his targeting systems already acquired in anticipation of the order.

(OOC: Fire Phasers Task, Control (9) + Security (4), Difficulty 1 (adjusted by advantage), Shipboard Tactical Systems focu

Rolled 2d20 : 2, 20, total 22

Renny

OOC: Yikes - Two successes due to Focus, 1 Complication

Rolling for ship assist - Weapons (9) + Security (3)

Rolled 1d20 : 2, total 2

Renny

OOC: So that's another two successes, right? A ship is always assumed to have a relevant Focus I believe.

Doug Burke

Yep. I'd advise using 2 of your momentum to buy off the complication...
