Quote from: Davy, aka GM on April 24, 2025, 11:02:24 AM"We were just talking strategy - discussing the fact that you and your crew have experience with a Trill among you," the ambassador continues, gesturing for Cole to join them at the conference table. "Tell me, what is your impression of Tobin Les and his performance on your ship?"

"I'm pleased to meet you, sir", Cole replies before nodding respectfully at the rest of the ambassador's group in turn.

He considers carefully before replying to the ambassador's question.

"I've always found Commander Les to be an exceptional officer, sir."

Cole & Chev
His briefing complete, Cole begins to assign team members to their stations. He next stops by the small Novan delegation meeting space and is invited in by the ambassador.

"Lt. Cole, I'm Davar Errickoa," the elder Novan greets, then introduces the other members of his team: Delegate Calixta Quesada Otero de Colinoro, and aides Anamaria de Brazanos and Zahra Nuralla. Errickoa is older - well into his 60s or 70s, with graying dark hair and a silver mustache and goatee - and he gives the impression of a man who has always succeeded in whatever he set his mind to; honestly, there's almost a royal air surrounding the man - and that his entire delegation is comprised of beautiful women just adds to it.

Nearby, Miguel smiles at the security officer's arrival.

"We were just talking strategy - discussing the fact that you and your crew have experience with a Trill among you," the ambassador continues, gesturing for Cole to join them at the conference table. "Tell me, what is your impression of Tobin Les and his performance on your ship?"

Tobin & Voshen
Ambassador Lasree Voliax arrives in due time. She stops short at the sight of the Zaranite, and a flash of...something...crosses her features for a brief moment before they shift to a bright smile, so genuine looking, one can't tell if it is sincere or practiced.

"A fresh voice from the outside, I see," she says, extending her hand in greeting. "I'm Ambassador Voliax. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant...?"

"Voshen, ma'am," the navigator replies.

"Thank you for answering Mr. Dax's call for assistance. This pre-conference session is important to us," the ambassador continues. Releasing his hand, her eyes scan the room behind Voshen. "I was told a Tobin Les was to be our primary liaison..."

She finds Tobin and Jeeri toward the back and gestures for them to come forward. "Mr. Les, I'm Ambassador Voliax. I look forward to finding out how your experience in Starfleet will help our homeworld's membership application. Mr. Dax speaks very highly of you and work you did for him at Starbase 24."

OOC: Sorry, Davy. Been busy decorating the house. Apologies for the delay in response. Happy to move on to the next scene when ready.

Voshen
Greetings are passed around, and the third aide in the group (a woman named Sholaan* Naske) is introduced, as well. They graciously accept Voshen's offer of assistance, and give him nameplates to put around the table (and a padd with the arrangements) - the nameplates include members of the Trill and Novan delegations, along with Tobin, Miguel, Chev, and himself. The navigator notices the placement of each attendee isn't haphazard, but follows some form of protocol for rank (ambassadors in the center, facing each other, with other senior diplomats flanking each, and the Starfleet personnel to one side - the seating to the opposite side is left unassigned, which the staff say are for aides like themselves - but is also where Tobin, Voshen, and the ambassadors will meet ahead of the first session).

Ord is very familiar with poker and is keen to get in a game. The others are less so, but are willing to learn.

* Sholaan is pronounced shoh-lay-ANN. -Ed.

Tobin
"What was the old quote? 'We fear what we cannot know, the uncertainty of the unfolding of events.'" Tobin recognizes this from one of their philosophy textbooks back in school - a quote by a founder of the Symbiosis Commission. "It was about accepting a future we can never truly see or predict - that the chaos of a billion souls acting independently makes any prediction suspect, and that we must let go of that fear of not knowing.

"I'm sorry for your friend, that he can't accept the private aspects of our culture," she adds. "I hope we can convince him that we are not an oppressive society - to the contrary, we've long been a strong meritocracy."

The legate smiles slightly. "Not that I have to prove that to you."

OOC: If you gents want to take your conversations further, let me know; otherwise, we'll get to the next scene.

Quote from: Davy, aka GM on April 03, 2025, 05:15:33 PMShe pauses to refocus. "My point is that our secrets are no less important to us than theirs are to them. Why should we be subject to greater scrutiny?"

Tobin sighs. "A reasonable question. And I suppose it's one only Ambassador Errickoa can answer. Still, Trill may have to be willing to compromise in some way. This whole exercise -- deepening ties and joining the Federation -- is built on trust. Someone will have to be willing to take the first step."

He pauses, recognizing the frustration in his own voice. "I'm sorry, Jeeri. I don't mean to argue with you. After all, the responsibility lies with Ambassador Voliax, not you or me. I'm just a little on edge with having to dance around the truth with my crew on this assignment." He glances in Voshen's direction. "The lieutenant in particular seems uncomfortable with the secrets. I'm afraid he has the idea our culture is repressive."

VALUE
Logic is the key to understanding
There are multiple ways to resolve a problem*
Talking is preferable to fighting*
Logic and emotions are not mutually exclusive*

TALENTS
Constant Presence* - You're a regular fixture of away missions and other important work, relied upon by the senior staff for your expertise and judgment. Introducing this supporting character in subsequent adventures no longer costs Crew Support, and the supporting character gains 1 Determination the first time they are used in an adventure.

In the Nick of Time* - Whenever you succeed at an Engineering or Science task as part of an extended task, you increase your Impact by 1.

Mind Meld* - You've undergone training in telepathic techniques that allow the melding of minds through physical contact. This always requires a task (normally Control + Sciences) with a Difficulty of at least 1, which can be opposed by an unwilling participant. If successful, you link minds with the participant, sharing thoughts and memories. Momentum may be spent to gain more information or perform deeper telepathic exchanges. This link goes both ways, and it is a tiring and potentially hazardous process. Complications can result in taking Stress, pain, disorientation, or lingering emotional or behavioral difficulties.

Nerve Pinch* - You have learned numerous techniques for the stimulation and control of nerve impulses—collectively called neuropressure. Some applications of neuropressure can be used to incapacitate assailants swiftly and non-lethally. The nerve pinch counts as a Melee Attack which inflicts Stun Injuries with a Severity of 3 and the Intense quality. You may use Science or Medicine instead of Security when attempting a Nerve Pinch Attack.

NOTES
Height: 195 cm  (6'5")    Weight: 90.7 kg (200 lb.)     Eyes: Black     Hair: Black

General Description: Tall and thin, Sorak has a very professional appearance. He keeps his hair trimmed in the standard Vulcan style and his uniform is surprisingly immaculate, given his profession.

Personality: Sorak seems to be the archetypal Vulcan at first glance, but as one gets to know him, they see that he is somewhat more in touch with his emotions than the average Vulcan. He will occasionally make a joke or crack a subdued smile, but all within the framework of his logical approach to the world. He values his privacy as much as any other Vulcan, but can also be social with those he has come to know well.

Background: Sorak comes from a long line of officers and investigators in the V'Kor, Vulcan's police force, but at an early age his skills in the sciences set him apart from the rest of his family. Logically, they sponsored his application and applauded his acceptance to the Vulcan Science Academy at age 18 in 2260. While attending the Academy, Sorak was introduced to the Way of Jarok (Tu-Jarok) by one of his professors and began the quest to understand and integrate emotions in moderation into the logical lifestyle of a Vulcan scientist.

Following his graduation from the VSA in 2264, Sorak took a position in theoretical physics research, where he worked for 12 years. He found the experience intellectually fulfilling, but something was missing. It wasn't until the return of the USS Enterprise from her historic five-year mission under Kirk that Sorak began considering the satisfaction that could result from applying his physics knowledge in a practical, as opposed to theoretical, manner. By 2276, he had joined Starfleet as part of the fast-track officer training program leading up to the expansion of Starfleet's exploratory efforts in the early 2280s.

Sorak's first assignment was almost literally trial by fire when he was assigned as an engineering officer to the USS Pendragon, a destroyer patrolling along the Klingon border. By the end of his six-year assignment in 2282, Sorak had proven his worth as an engineer, been promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, and improved his skills in the use of the Vulcan nerve pinch.

His next assignment was to the USS Saratoga, a Miranda-class cruiser on an exploration mission. In 2284, Sorak was promoted to Lieutenant and Chief Engineer of the starship. He served aboard the Saratoga during the Probe Incursion of 2286 and found a new emotional experience in the frustration that resulted from being rendered helpless and adrift by the probe.

Soon after returning to starbase, Sorak was reassigned to the Drake as Chief Engineer. A post he was proud to accept. He served on the Drake until her decommissioning and had, by that time, been promoted to both First Officer and Chief Engineer. Positions he continued aboard the ship's successor, a Constellation-class cruiser, along with a promotion to full Commander.

Following the Drake's visit to Vulcan in 2289, in which the crew was instrumental in thwarting an attempt on his father's life, Sorak accepted a transfer to 40 Eridani Shipyards as Captain of Engineering.
