VALUE
Logic is the key to understanding.
There are multiple ways to resolve a problem.
Talking is preferable to fighting.
Logic and emotions are not mutually exclusive.

TALENTS
Mind Meld: Melding of minds through physical contact. This will always require a Task with a Difficulty of at least 1, which can be opposed by an unwilling participant. If successful, you link minds with the participant, sharing thoughts and memories; Momentum to gain more info.
Nerve Pinch: The nerve pinch counts as a melee weapon with 1 Intense, Size 1H, and the Nonlethal quality. You may use Science or Medicine instead of Security when attempting a nerve pinch Attack, and may increase damage by your Science or Medicine Discipline instead of Security.
In the Nick of Time: Whenever you succeed at an Engineering or Science Task as part of an Extended Task, you score 1 additional Work for every Effect rolled.
Rocks Into Replicators: Once per session, you may destroy any single piece of equipment to create any other piece of equipment of an equal or lower Opportunity Cost. This new piece of equipment has a Complication range increase of 2, with the Complication being a malfunction that renders it useless. You should provide a reasonable explanation as to how a repurposed or cannibalized device could function and the Gamemaster has final say if there is any question about the "reasonableness" of the new device.

POSITION ABILITIES:
EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Second-in-Command. The executive officer is the captain's chief advisor, and takes command in situations where the captain is unable to. When another character in communication with the executive officer spends a point of Determination, the executive officer may spend 3 Momentum (Immediate) to let that character regain the spent point of Determination.
CHIEF ENGINEER: Engineering department only. The chief engineer is responsible for ensuring that the ship remains operational and functional, and commands the engineering department aboard the ship. When aboard the ship, the chief engineer always has the Advantage "Engineering Department", which represents the ship's complement of engineers and technicians.

General Description: Tall and thin, Sorak has a very professional appearance. He keeps his hair trimmed in the standard Vulcan style and his uniform is surprisingly immaculate, given his profession.

Personality: Sorak seems to be the archetypal Vulcan at first glance, but as one gets to know him, they see that he is somewhat more in touch with his emotions than the average Vulcan. He will occasionally make a joke or crack a subdued smile, but all within the framework of his logical approach to the world. He values his privacy as much as any other Vulcan, but can also be social with those he has come to know well.

Background: Sorak comes from a long line of officers and investigators in the V'Kor, Vulcan's police force, but at an early age his skills in the sciences set him apart from the rest of his family. Logically, they sponsored his application and applauded his acceptance to the Vulcan Science Academy at age 18 in 2260. While attending the Academy, Sorak was introduced the Way of Jarok (Tu-Jarok) by one of his professors and began the quest to understand and integrate emotions in moderation into the logical lifestyle of a Vulcan scientist.

Following his graduation from the VSA in 2264, Sorak took a position in theoretical physics research, where he worked for 12 years. He found the experience intellectually fulfilling, but something was missing. It wasn't until the return of the USS Enterprise from her historic five-year mission under Kirk that Sorak began considering the satisfaction that could result from applying his physics knowledge in a practical, as opposed to theoretical, manner. By 2276, he had joined Starfleet as part of the fast-track officer training program leading up to the expansion of Starfleet's exploratory efforts in the early 2280s.

Sorak's first assignment was almost literally trial by fire when he was assigned as an engineering officer to the USS Pendragon, a destroyer patrolling along the Klingon border. By the end of his six-year assignment in 2282, Sorak had proven his worth as an engineer, been promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, and improved his skills in the use of the Vulcan nerve pinch.

His next assignment was to the USS Saratoga, a Miranda-class cruiser on an exploration mission. In 2284, Sorak was promoted to Lieutenant and Chief Engineer of the starship. He served aboard the Saratoga during the Probe Incursion of 2286 and found a new emotional experience in the frustration that resulted from being rendered helpless and adrift by the probe.

Soon after returning to starbase, Sorak was reassigned to the Drake as Chief Engineer. A post he was proud to accept. He served on the Drake until her decommissioning and had, by that time, been promoted to both First Officer and Chief Engineer. Positions he continued aboard the sip's successor, a Constellation-class cruiser, along with a promotion to full Commander.
