OOC: Just to clarify, T'Kiri is only an observer in this instance. As such, it would be a violation of that status to "lead the way" or even appear to be directing Starfleet personnel to a location in the execution of the search warrant. She is only allowed to follow and watch (and answer questions with regard to the text of the warrant itself).

Voshen's task will be Reason + Engineering vs. Difficulty 4. The difficulty is high due to the passage of time since the last transport was possible and the interference caused by the storm itself.

Since he is without instruction from the captain, what is Tobin doing? Is he assisting Voshen in his task, going with Cole, or following Treyva?

"It is a period of meditation through labor. Kavoran will be with his brethren and sustren in the main sanctuary," the monk responds.

The V'Kor investigator steps forward, holding up a PADD. "This is finding of judicial cause authorizing the Starfleet-led task force to conduct a search of the bedchambers used by the monk Kavoran, as well as the reliquary, workshop, and training area used by him," she says. "They are seeking contraband electronic devices in accordance with Vulcan Criminal Statute 14614.

"You are restrained from warning Kavoran, nor are you allowed to precede investigative personnel into the areas being searched. Any individuals found to be within the aforementioned areas are themselves subject to search. Do you understand the terms of the warrant and restrictions it places?"

Nahwoor reads the information on the PADD and hands it back to T'Kiri. "I do. What sort of electronics do you seek? We use very little technology here, and nearly all of our devices are housed in our medical and administrative buildings."

OOC: I'll let you gents answer that question as you desire. Having performed her one official duty, T'Kiri is now only an observer.

How do you want to handle this? You can split up to cover all areas simultaneously (the two security guards also have tricorders), or you can move together as one group. Kavoran's bedchamber will be in a different building than the reliquary and workshop/training area (which sits immediately below the reliquary).

OOC: Acknowledging Treyva invoking "Family is Paramount" to spend 1 Determination for Perfect Opportunity. Also acknowledging successful restoration of Treyva's Determination through Veteran.

3 Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated! Banking the Momentum point.

Back at the Academy, Treyva and a number of his fellow cadets were studying together for an advanced biology midterm. Two of his classmates in the course were in the medical track, and got off on a tangent debating why neurological disorders in Vulcans use only Vulcanian names, and not Federation Standard terms from the IME DSM*. (Of course, neither of the pre-meds were Vulcans...and, in fact, Treyva was the only non-human in that particular study group.)

One of the topics of the debate was a form dissonant psychopathy that Vulcans call mes-stirila kloshai-has, which the DSM lists as "Astan-tal's Disorder" (named for the Andorian neuropsychiatrist who identified it) for all other species. Treyva can't remember how the debate ended, or how the rest of the group was able to get them back to studying for the exam.

* Interspecies Medical Exchange Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Physical and Mental Diseases and Disorders, which is the Federation's primary reference authority for medical and psychological diagnoses. Yes, the IME still exists in the 23rd Century, and serves as the Federation's professional medical association. -Ed.

OOC: No to the Focus (this is a recall of specialized information), but yes to invoking the Value.

I'll also allow you to instead Succeed at Cost, the cost being the Complication "Distasteful," meaning the only word Treyva can remember is one that the monk would consider "undignified"; the landing party will have an increased Complication range of 18-20 in all tasks that involve Nahwoor.

OOC: Reason + Medicine (Psychology) vs. Difficulty 2 to get the Vulcan terminology. If you want the terminology in Federation standard, you can instead go for Difficulty 1.

With the gate closed behind them, the walls of the monastery complex minimize the effects of the simoom - the winds remain hot, but not blisteringly so, and their velocity is more manageable. The hooded monk directs them through a small door immediately opposite the gate, where he reveals open relief through a slight smile.

"It is agreeable to see new faces," he says pleasantly. "I am Nahwoor, the second-master here. What purpose drove you to brave the mazhiv-yon sahriv* to visit our refuge?"

* The Vulcan term for a simoom (literally: sandfire storm). - Ed.

Bundled up as best as they can, the landing party departs the shuttle and double times it to the monastery gate. Voshen's outer cover is caught by the whipping wind and loosens briefly, the heat and dust blistering his skin as he gets it resecured. Meanwhile, Tobin, distracted momentarily by Voshen's wardrobe malfunction, trips on something unseen and ends up sprawled on the plaza, taking a face full of the hazardous environment. T'Kiri rushes over to help him up, briefly exposing herself to the heat to get the science officer righted.

Eventually, though, the landing party reaches the gate, which opens in seeming anticipation of their arrival. A heavily-covered monk yells, "Inside! Quickly!" He's barely intelligible in the maelstrom.

OOC: With the advantage for desert provisions, the final Difficulty of the task is 1.

Treyva - 1 Success vs. Difficulty 1. Success!

Tobin - 1 Success vs. Difficulty 1. Success!

Cole - 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated

Voshen - 1 Success vs. Difficulty 1. Success!

Chev - 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Momentum generated

T'Kiri - 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Threat generated

Drake - 2 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Success, plus 1 Threat generated

Spunkmeyer - 0 Successes vs. Difficulty 1. Failure

Everyone but Spunkmeyer gets to roll 2[CD] for cover. (Just as a refresher, a 1 is 1, a 2 is 2, a 3 or 4 is 0, a 5 or 6 is 1 + Effect. In this case, the Effect has no extra benefit. Your total Resistance from cover is equal to the result of your [CD] roll.)

If you wish, I will allow you each to spend 1 Momentum to add 1[CD] to any character's cover roll.

Let me know how you want to spend Momentum. 1 of 2 Threat I generated will be spent to give Spunkmeyer 1[CD] for his own protection (since he's also relying on his security armor).

Let me know how you want to spend or bank Momentum, and then we'll do the cover and damage rolls.

OOC: Yes, I will give you an Advantage for additional desert provisions, since they were specified earlier. (Perhaps cloaks like the one the Spock was wearing in Star Trek V: The Search for God The Final Frontier.)

OOC: Acknowledging the invoking of a Value to spend Determination for Perfect Opportunity.

3 Successes from Voshen, plus 2 Successes for Perfect Opportunity, plus 0 Successes for the shuttle, giving us 5 total Successes vs. Difficulty 2. Success, plus 3 Momentum generated!

So you wish to spend any of that Momentum, or just bank it? (I'm not saying y'all may need it later, but y'all may need it later...)

Thankfully, since Chev performed the Restore Minor Action, that 19 from the shuttle isn't a Complication.  8)

Momentum 0 (3 pending, Voshen)
Threat 10

Chev reacts quickly, expertly bypassing popped breakers and damaged couplings, restoring the shuttle's automation. Full flight control back at his fingertips, Voshen redoubles his efforts and weaves through the chaos of the storm. They alight near the monastery gate after a surprisingly smooth end to the flight.

Outside, the area is subject to simoom-like conditions - extremely hot, heavy winds laden with dust. Conditions such as these can actually cause blistering on exposed skin, and the crew has a good 15 meters separating them and the gate. Cole and Tobin note that there is no sentry posted in front of the gate.

OOC: You folks have your excursion jackets - your choice if you also are wearing the excursion vest underneath.

The two security guards (who are going to be Crewman Drake* and Crewman Spunkmeyer) are wearing armor and helmets. Cole may also wear security armor, should he choose, at a cost of Opportunity 1 and Escalation 1.

* Drake is a descendant of Dr. Elias J. Drake, so her team calls her "Namesake." -Ed.

(Further, the security guards are Minor NPCs in this scene, so I'll roll for them (and they'll generate Threat, not Momentum).)

Each character needs to make a Fitness + Security test vs. Difficulty 2 to transit to the gate. Success will grant 2[CD] cover against the winds (which are rated at 3[CD] Piercing 1); security armor provides 2 Resistance.
